Say goodbye to winter scaries with these activities

Fall (AKA mud season up here in the mountains) is scary for more reasons than just Halloween. It’s that brief window of time where the weather is absolute perfection but you know it’s fleeting and old man winter is about to come a-knockin’. For many of us, it means the winter scaries are fast approaching.

And while we know it’s easy to dread the cold and dark months coming our way, this year, we’re determined to head into snowy season with a positive attitude. Rather than thinking about what summer and fall activities we’ll be missing, we’re thinking about all of the fun winter activities we have to look forward to.

Check out our list of activities that will keep your mental and physical health in tip-top shape this winter.

Cross-country skiing

Hands down one of our favorite ways to get a good outdoor winter workout in. Not only will it bring you to magical winter places, you’ll get your heart rate up and have fun doing it. Bring friends, dogs, even your baby (check out our favorite setup to pair with the Thule Chariot), and make a day of it!

Winter hikes

Don’t count hikes out just because it’s winter! There’s no reason to not maintain your hiking stamina all year round. Here are our favorite winter hiking shoes.

Hot yoga

Okay, okay, yes, we’re trying to keep a positive attitude but we’re not totally unreasonable — we know there will be plenty of days where we just won’t be able to face the cold and on those days, we plan on roasting indoors. Find a local studio that you love and look forward to visiting. Here’s our favorite mat.

Sledding

Call us dorks, children, whatever you want but what better way to spend a winter Saturday than a sledding party!? Vitamin D - check, workout - check (walking up a hill over and over will do it, we promise), friends - check.

Skinning

We know skiing uphill sounds counterintuitive but this is another great way to get an outdoor winter workout in, and the best part is it ends with a free downhill lap! Make it part of your sunrise or sunset routine. Here’s our favorite pack for quick resort laps.

Winter bonfires

Skip going out to a restaurant and host a winter bonfire! As long as you’re appropriately bundled and can keep the fire going, you won’t even notice the cold.

Break it up with a beach trip

As a last resort (pun intended), break up the long winter months with a beach trip if you can (and/or need to) swing it. Even if it’s just for a weekend, find a cheap flight and defrost for a few days with friends, fam, or yourself.

Xoxo,

WB
