The best online thrift stores

Consignment, thrift, secondhand, previously loved—whatever term you prefer—we’re doing our best to buy fewer brand-new products. In this day and age it can be hard, especially when we’re targeted with hundreds of different ads every day, but it is also easier than ever to buy quality secondhand clothing — you don’t even have to get off the couch.

We’ve compiled a list of our favorite places to thrift online. So, the next time you are heading to Revolve or Zara, perhaps try checking out one of the options below first. The planet (and landfills) will thank you, and so will your wallet.

Best Online thrift stores for regular clothing

Our top picks: ThredUp, Poshmark, Depop, The RealReal, lululemon Like New

Whether you’re looking for a dress for a special occasion, an activewear set, a designer pair of shoes at a discounted price, or maybe you’re just on the hunt for a fun thrifted treasure, these are the best secondhand clothing shops.

ThredUp - Best all around

ThredUp is well organized and feels very similar to shopping on a traditional online retailer. The return policy is also great.

Poshmark - Best prices

I prefer to use the mobile app and love it for finding specific styles. If there is something you love but the price tag is a little over budget, I love to see if I can find it on Poshmark. You can also make offers to sellers and sometimes get things for even cheaper prices.

Depop - Most trendy

Depop feels like a trendier, cooler version of Poshmark. Sellers are artsy with their listings and you can find some really cool treasures.

The RealReal - Best designer styles

TheRealReal is a premium online shopping experience. The designer selections are impressive and you can find some super high-end items at a fraction of the price.

lululemon Like New - Best activewear

Set up as a trade-in program, all of the items are gently used and it’s super easy to search by size and style.

Best online thrift stores for 0utdoor gear and apparel

Our top picks: Patagonia Worn Wear, REI Re/Supply, The North Face Renewed, Geartrade

If you’re in the market for a new-to-you puffy, tent or maybe even a pair of skis, these online gear and apparel retailers have you covered.

Patagonia Worn Wear - Best quality

Another trade-in program with a strong user experience. I once traded in a micro puff that I had worn nearly every day for 3+ years and received a $50 credit.

REI Re/Supply - Best prices

A great selection of both gear and apparel. The site allows you to filter your search by category, activity, brand, price, color, and condition.

The North Face Renewed - Most stylish

You can find some cool options here. The “REMADE” section has some really unique pieces that are truly one-of-a-kind. There is a solid footwear section as well.

Geartrade - Best gear

A ton of selections across nearly every category of outdoor gear. Geartrade allows you to narrow your product category search down to very specific categories, making it super easy to quickly find exactly what you’re looking for.

say goodbye to fast fashion

Trust us, we are definitely not perfect when it comes to shopping secondhand. We understand the ease of going to your favorite online retailer and ordering what you know will fit, but when you have the extra time, we encourage you to check out one of these fast fashion alternatives.

Love, WB
