Winter shoes for every (mountain town) occasion
Mountain living has its perks but, NGL, when we see our LA girlies heading out with a light jacket and a cute pair of warm-weather shoes in the middle of JANUARY, we get a little jealous…
Winter footwear is always a big dilemma for us — putting together a cute fit only to pair it with a dorky snow boot is not what we’re going for. At the same time, we don’t want to look like THAT girl slip-slidin’ down the street. A happy medium is what we’re all about — cute but practical.
Read on for a pair of shoes for every occasion — every occasion in a mountain town, that is (look somewhere else for anything fancy)...
Walking in a winter wonderland
Our favorite boot for taking a walk, or even a moderate hike, in icy, snow-packed conditions is the Brex Faux Shearling boot by Sorel. Not only do these boots kick your typical activewear set + puffer up a notch, but they’re also practical! The traction is amazing, they have a nice chunky sole that keeps your feet elevated off the ground and therefore warm, and the laces allow you to go as tight as you want.
Worried about the color when snow turns to brown slush? I’ve had these boots for over a year and have somehow managed to maintain their original color. Warm water and a cloth has worked like a charm.
Winter trail running
Step aside winter trail running shoes, we’ve got a nifty DIY hack that will make your wallet happy. We’ve found that our best bet for remaining upright while running in icy conditions is screwing a few little ½ inch (for most shoes) hex-head screws into your soles.
And no, you won’t have to buy a new pair of shoes when summertime rolls. Taking them out is easy and doesn’t ruin the shoe.
Pro tip: while our wallets will love this DIY fix, our floors… not so much — these little devils can scratch the sh** out of your floors! Be sure to take your shoes off before stepping inside 😉.

Again, I know the color is a bit intimidating, but we are not the types of girls who can keep a shoe looking new, and somehow, after 3+ years, these boots have remained white — no witchcraft involved.
As you can see, we’ve got a thing for platforms but there really is something to say about the distance between the bottom of your foot and the ground helping with warmth. And while the platform plus the winter white is fun and funky, the traction on these puppies also makes them a practical option for grabbing a drink, going to a dinner party, etc. on cold, icy nights.
We hope these options bring a bit more fun to your winter fits AND keep you off your ass in the middle of the grocery store parking lot (can’t say we haven’t been there).
Love,
WB
